Hugging can be a
giving action.
A taking action.
Or it can be with the right balance which will sustain Body and Soul as one.
Being a good hugger is important to the body and soul alike. The same way that the body understands when it feels a warm and yummy hug which is the outcome when two beings act in the shape of one. So it goes for the Soul who longs for its sustaining and knows when it receives it. That is done through Prayer, Meditation, deep and true communication, positive affirmation to self and to others.
Now that you have both sides of the hug within you, you can give a hug to your partner and he/she will feel it with body and soul.
